Matcha Košice: Where to get matcha in Košice? (autumn 2025 guide)
Matcha found me many years ago. Coffee was always too intense for me - it caused stomach pain, rapid heartbeat and inner restlessness. Matcha was a discovery for me: gentle, balanced, with a pleasant taste and effect that energized me without burdening my body.
Since then I've traveled to various countries, including Japan, and tried matcha in different ways. I like to observe how people prepare it, what approaches they choose, what flavors they prefer. I still try to maintain a curious mindset: to learn, perceive differences and expand my view of what matcha can be.
Today I have my own matcha stand in Košice: SORAMI. In this blog, I would like to look at how matcha is made in Košice and what I noticed during my visits to other establishments. It's not an evaluation, rather a description of how different approaches create different experiences.
How we prepare matcha at SORAMI
At SORAMI we combine quality teas, respect for the tea ceremony, and a peaceful experience. We use the highest quality matcha powders that come from important Japanese tea regions and are finely ground on stone mills. We also bring several matcha cultivars to Košice, such as Samidori, Uji Hikari and Okumidori. We whisk matcha by hand in a chawan bowl using a chasen, and we try to create a space where guests can slow down and focus on the preparation process and taste of the tea. We also gladly explain to guests the origin of matchas, differences between cultivars or recommend according to taste.
How matcha is prepared elsewhere in Košice: my observations
I gradually taste matcha in various establishments in Košice, especially in specialty coffee cafes but also others. Each establishment took it differently and I enjoy that diversity.
The Matcha Košice
The concept focuses on a modern atmosphere and flavored versions of matcha latte, for example with flavors like pistachio, mango, chocolate or strawberry. They put 2 grams of matcha and a higher proportion of milk in the drinks. As a result, the matcha is gentler, but suitable for those who prefer creative matcha drinks and want to try all the different novelties.
Foxford at Martinus
In the summer menu I found strawberry matcha latte - a combination of strawberry puree, 2 grams of matcha, milk and ice. This fruity version may appeal to people looking for a lighter matcha taste.
Frištik
Matcha latte at Frištik has a distinct green color and beautiful latte art. It is intended for visitors who like sweeter tastes.
Melody – coffee roastery
At Melody they prepare matcha using a bamboo chasen and in a ceramic chawan (tea bowl for matcha), which is in line with the traditional way. The staff was open to adjusting the amount of milk and ice as desired.
What's next?
My observations are just a small slice of how diverse the matcha scene can be even in one city. If you have your favorite places in Košice, feel free to write me what you would recommend adding to the list.
I look forward to more matcha discoveries.
See you at SORAMI 🍵🌿🤍
